Scholarships and Bursaries

Parkland County offers financial support in the form of bursaries for local students pursuing post-secondary education related to Agriculture, and the Rural Municipalities Association (RMA) offers a scholarship to students from rural communities in Alberta.

Agricultural Bursaries

Agricultural Services provides five (5) bursaries of $500.00 each to students living in the County who are attending University, Community College, or any other recognized post-secondary institution and enrolled in an agri-based program. 

Applications open July 1, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

Submission Requirements

  • Be a resident of Parkland County. 
  • Provide a background essay outlining your rural experience, community involvement, volunteer and recreational activities. Indicate your goals and objectives as they relate to your field of study and agriculture. 
  • Provide proof of enrolment in a post-secondary institution.

Bursary Recipients

We would like to recognize each recipient for their hard work, dedication to the field of Agriculture, and commitments to the community.

Congratulations to our 2025 recipients:

Levi Leteta

  • Enrolled at NAIT in the Business/Accounting program to learn bookkeeping and accounting with the goal of taking over the family bison farm.

Peta Kendall-Price

  • Enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program, majoring in Animal Science. Peta's goal is to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and contribute to the health and sustainability of livestock and rural communities.

Blake Klein

  • Enrolled at Olds College in the Agriculture Management program to learn business and leadership skills with the goal of pursing a career in agriculture.

Rylee Rogers

  • Enrolled at the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine after completing a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science at the University of Alberta. Rylee's goal is to work as a large animal veterinarian or in a mixed animal practice.

Ayla Kendall-Price

  • A long-standing 4H club member and Belted Galloway cattle breeder who is pursuing her Agribusiness Diploma at Lakeland College.

Brody Laackmann

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and is majoring in Animal Science at the University of Alberta where he is a member of the Agriculture Club.

Tyler Visser

  • A long-standing 4H member who is pursuing an Animal Science Degree at Lakeland College. 

Charlotte Fairbank

  • A retired showjumper who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Alberta.  

Travis Wagner

  • Pursuing Crop Technology at Lakeland College and is the General Manager of the crop operation on their student-managed farm. 

RMA Scholarship

Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA), an organization representing Alberta's incorporated rural municipalities, offers a Scholarship Program. The program supports rural students attending a recognized post-secondary institution.

Designed to encourage young rural Albertans to pursue further education, a scholarship in the amount of $1,500 will be presented to six (6) successful applicants. 

Applications open May 15, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

Eligibility

  • Be a resident of a municipality, which is a member in good standing with the RMA, including municipal districts, counties, specialized municipalities, and the Special Areas.
  • Be registered in your first four years of study at a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Be pursuing a course of studies of relevance to local government and / or rural communities.

Application Requirements

Please visit the RMA Scholarship Program page for full details on how to apply. Part of the requirement is to have written confirmation from the local rural municipality's Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) certifying that the applicant is a resident of the municipality.
